Feb. 28 Class

Today's the day our instant-book was due (well, supposed to be due). I'm glad I handed out my booklet. I had a few concerns before passing it out, such as worrying about how people would like my simple inside page, but everyone who commented seemed to like my project! I still wish the images turned out a little cleaner, but overall I'm happy with my finished project.

Looking onto Project 3. I had a few topic ideas on what to do for it but I couldn't think of a design for any of them. While looking up a topic for another class, I decided (well, I'm 98% sure) I'm going to do it on World Down Syndrome Day. I'm going to keep my design idea a secret, for now, but hopefully it meets the guidelines! I'm very excited to get to work on this.

Finishing Product

I'm currently folding all of my instant books. The quality of my pictures aren't what I hoped they would be in print version, and the inside of my book isn't spaced the way I expected it to look when cut, but after 20 copies I can't edit, print, fold them, and have them ready for class...

It's not the finished product I pictured in my mind, but considering it's the first time I've ever done an instant book I'm pleased!

The theme of my story is my journey with dance. The title is "Kinetogenic Life" which uses both of my initials of my name. The word kinetogenic means causing or producing movement/motion, which is exactly what dance is!

I hope you all like it!

Second Project

We have started our work on our second project. When it was first assigned I was very confused as to how the format was supposed to be specifically. I understood it was six pages inside, a front and back cover, and the other side of the paper could be a picture of some sort. Besides that, I had no idea what to do- how much should be type, pictures, story.....

During my break before class I took a glance at some of the examples on the website from our class blog. It helped me to see other people's work, but I was still confused. I wasn't sure if things had to be self drawn through the computer, if we could use actual picture, etc.

FINALLY after doing a little bit of class discussion I understood what we were asked to do, and an idea finally popped into my head: why I dance!

Yes, it's a little expected, and it's things like this that label me as "the dancer," but that's just it, dance IS who I am. I would be a completely different person if it was never in my life.

I'm excited to see where this project leads....hopefully I'll have a nice finished product that everyone can enjoy!

First Project

Considering I have little-to-no previous experience working with InDesign, I'm very pleased with the outcome of my first project. It was fun experimenting with fonts, colors, shapes, design....

Originally I was going to make my design bright and wordy- lots of color and lots of information about me like my jobs and my family. Instead I created a blue background. Blue's my favorite color and that shade of blue is very calming and easy to look at. I chose to have the writing to be in white. The blue and white are simple but look nice together.

My name is the focal point, with a larger font than the others. It is also outlined. On both sides of my name are a font which somehow is a design with a shamrock incorporated into it. I'm 50 percent Irish and love it, so the shamrocks were the perfect little touch to my name.

Surrounding my name are some of my favorite quotes that inspire me to be me and to continue to learn and be successful. Not only are the quotes important, but also the people who said them. Two of the authors are dancers. Dance has been in my life since I was three years old and now I am a professional, so including dance was just as important as the shamrocks! The other known author was Babe Ruth. Baseball/softball has been in my life since birth. My father plays/coaches, my brother plays, and I played for ten years. Although it's not a huge part of my life anymore, it is still a part of who I am.

I hope you all enjoy the project! I can't wait to see how much more I grow with InDesign and Photoshop this semester.

Pre-Class Thoughts

It's almost 10 minutes until class begins today....

I just edited my project a little bit more. I think it turned out nice! Hopefully I can find out if there's anything else I should fix before submitting it!

Today we have to bring in pictures- I think we're learning about photoshop and editing images. I'm looking forward to learning even more new things.

See you in class!

Thoughts on Class

I feel like I learned a lot in class this week. I never noticed how much fonts impact our everyday life. For example, I never noticed how prominent the font Helvetica is! I now feel as though it's everywhere I go.

Today on my way to work, I caught myself staring at the road signs wondering which fonts they were....which probably isn't a good thing seeing as my focus should be on the cars on the road.

This week I also learned a lot about InDesign. I used it once before to work on a final project for my journalism class in high school, but I had no idea what I was doing (although the final product looked nice). I don't think my project is the best project ever, but I really like how my design came out. Hopefully you all like it too!

See you on Tuesday!
